Seeing Jesus Together

What is a Healthy Bible Reading Discipline?

  • It is Daily Consumed. To thrive, we need both physical food and spiritual food every day.

  • It is Gospel Focused. We go to Jesus from every passage we read to confess sin and trust the Gospel.

  • It is Interdependent. We reflect on Scripture in solitude but celebrate the Word in community.

  • It is Spirit Led. We are aware of the Spirit's presence and leadership as we meditate upon and prayerfully respond to God's Word.

What is the Seeing Jesus Together Journal?

The SJT Solitude journal is a tool we use at TBPC to walk together toward a healthier Bible Reading Discipline.

Every day, in solitude, we approach the Word with transparency about our feelings and with submission to the Spirit.

Monday through Friday we read one chapter from the Old Testament and one chapter from the New Testament. On Saturdays, we read one psalm.

We go on to meditate on a brief passage from what we've read, focusing on what this passage is telling us about God, about a godly life and a sinful life, and about our need for Jesus' saving work in our life.

Based on this meditation, which is written briefly in the journal, we move on to adore God, confess our shortcomings to the Lord, thank Jesus, and ask the Spirit to change us, each in one to several sentences.

What are Seeing Jesus Together Small Groups?

On the second and fourth Sundays of each month, at 6:00 p.m., we meet at the Sanctuary in gender-specific groups of 6, to do an SJT meditation together in an interactive fashion that is slightly different than our Solitude exercise.

If you are a Christian with an interest in developing a healthier Bible Reading Discipline, you're invited to attend — even if you don't have much experience yet with the journal, or belong to a group, or even own a journal.

How can I get started with the Seeing Jesus Together Journal?

You can pick up a journal at TBPC, especially on  Sundays. We are asking a $15 donation to help cover the cost of the journal. This donation can be made online or by check or cash.

(Click here and select "2338 - Seeing Jesus Together Journals" from the drop down to make a journal donation.)

Ruling Elder Ed Jordan will offer tips and training on how to get started with the journal in solitude, and TBPC will have workshops on the journals as opportunities arise.
